The new service from KAI confuses netizens. Compartment suites are considered too expensive when compared with train cabin services in Berlin.
A tweet about PT KAI’s new service went viral on platform X (formerly Twitter). The account is @xathrya who said the new service was all about it.
“Robbery in broad daylight. Gambir-Gubeng is 800km, price 2 million. This compartment is not very space efficient, only a recliner seat, not a bed,” said @xathrya, quoted Monday (9/10/2023).
“Compare with Berlin Express for example, Berlin-Stockholm 1000km, room for 4 pax €240 (4 million). Can really sleep,” he added.
In that tweet, @xathrya responded to a quote from @sahabat_kereta. It states that KAI has opened class ticket sales compartment suites.
“KAI officially opens sales of ‘Compartment Suites’ class tickets available on trains, KA 60 Bima on the Gambir – Surabaya Gubeng route starting 10 Oct 2023, KA 17 Argo Semeru on the Surabaya Gubeng – Gambir route starting 11 Oct 2023. Promo ticket for one trip IDR 1950K ,” said @sahabat_kereta.

Referring to a number of videos from YouTube, sleeper carriage trains operating on the Berlin to Stockholm route do offer compartments with beds.
It is stated in the video that the Berlin Night Express has sleeper cars with bunk beds. There is also a bottom bunk in the form of a sofa while the top bunk is a bed.

Seen detikTravel from Access by KAI, this service can now be purchased. The ticket price for the Suites compartment attached to Argo Semeru is relatively expensive. From Gambir Station to Surabaya Gubeng Station the price is IDR 1,950 provided it is a promotional price.
It was confirmed separately that KAI will only officially release the train journey on Tuesday (10/10).
“Regarding compartment trains. Tomorrow we will publish it officially, because the plan is tomorrow afternoon or Tuesday 10 October at 16.00,” said Vice President (VP) Public Relations KAI, Joni Martinus.
Referring to PT KAI’s release, Compartment Suites trains are different in terms of service facilities which are claimed to have many advantages and have distinctive ornaments on the exterior and interior of the train.
The features offered are promised to pamper passengers, one of which is a chair that can recline up to 180 degrees so it can function as a sleeping mattress. The seats can be rotated (revolving) so that passengers can adjust to the direction of train travel.
The seats on this train also have leg rests that can be straightened so customers can relax. There is also a Train Onboard Infotainment System that customers can use to fill their free time during the trip.
