At the national team’s first training session in Cyprus, there were more from the support staff than players National team manager Ståle Solbakken believes the preparations are not ideal. Short charging time can affect the players’ performance in upcoming matches Despite the challenges, Solbakken feels that they are well prepared with video analyzes and tactical sessions Show more
– There is zero charging in terms of testing things out. Running things at high speed and provoking what is good and what you need to correct. When you get a perfect week, like we had before Spain and Georgia, you feel more confident when you set up the team, says Ståle Solbakken.
He held his first press conference at the players’ hotel in Larnaca, just over a quarter of an hour from where Norway meets Cyprus on Thursday evening.
Soon after, the national team had their first training session during their stay. There, four men had been reported ready for training.
Oscar Bobb, Marcus Holmgren Pedersen, Ola Solbakken and Kristian Thorstvedt were the ones who got to train under the floodlights at the training facility of the Cypriot top club Anorthosis Famagusta.

The rest had to rest, had just arrived in Cyprus or were on their way to the sunny island.
A slight disappointment for the local youngsters who trained on the pitch next door, hoping for a glimpse of the biggest stars.
The City Comet Bobb may be one of those to suffer from the short charge. The 20-year-old is in his first national team squad after gaining more and more confidence in the club team.
– We have worked with a number of principles. We should probably be able to print them in. We have not seen Oscar in those principles. If we put him on the field, we will put him in good positions, says Solbakken.

– There are always two or three places on the team that are uncertain. Sometimes it is decided in training, but we don’t get time for that now. We have seen all the actions of all the players from the weekend, so we are well prepared in that sense. At the same time, we wish we had a little more time, says Solbakken.
Tuesday is the time for restitution for the vast majority. On Wednesday, there will be a calm tactical session the day before the match. Already before the weekend, the players were sent a video to study in front of the assembly.
– It’s about resting, eating and drinking. Then we will have a couple or three good meetings. Then we will go through this on the training pitch at a slow pace, says the national team manager.
In Norway’s squad, 15 out of 26 players played on Sunday and thus get three days’ rest. For the Cyprus squad, 14 out of 23 apply.
Ståle Solbakken answers neither yes nor no to whether he is worried about the lack of time for charging.
– That’s how it is. It is not that Norway is in a special position there. We just have to live with that, he says.
