Jakarta – The government continues to encourage the use of electric vehicles, both electric motorbikes and electric car in Indonesia. With electric vehicles, people of course no longer need to refuel, but instead charge them, either at home (home charging) or at public electric vehicle charging stations (SPKLU).
Home charging itself is an electric vehicle charging service at home provided by PT PLN (Persero) for electric vehicle (EV) users.
Talking about home charging, what is the minimum power needed to charge an electric vehicle, especially an electric car, at home?
According to the official website of PT PLN (Persero), Monday (9/10/2023), the minimum electrical power for charging electric car at home it is 7,700 Volt Ampere (VA).
If your house’s electrical power is less than that, don’t worry! PLN is presenting a new connection promo (PB) for home charging, namely the Super Everyday promo.
This promotion can be followed by all PLN customer tariff groups, namely 1 Phase low voltage (TR) customers up to 7,700 VA power and 3 Phase TR customers up to 13,200 VA power.
Through this promo, customers get special prices. 1 Phase customers with a final power option of 7,700 VA will only be charged IDR 850 thousand from the normal price of around IDR 7.49 million.
Meanwhile, 3 Phase customers with a final power option of 13,200 VA only pay IDR 3.5 million from the normal price of around IDR 14.6 million.
Customers will also get a 30 percent discount on electricity rates from 22.00 WIB – 05.00 WIB from home charging usage.
Why is it important to install home charging for electric car users?
PLN President Director, Darmawan Prasodjo, said that home charging would be much needed compared to charging at public electric vehicle charging stations (SPKLU). This is because electric cars have an average capacity of more than 200 kilometers, while their use for daily mobility is no more than 100 kilometers.
“This electric car is like a cellphone. Charging is done at night at each person’s house. SPKLU is only used when traveling long distances,” explained Darmawan, quoted from the official PLN website, Monday (9/10/2023).
There is no charge for installing home charging itself, aka it’s free. Darmawan said that his party had collaborated with the Brand Holder Sole Agent (ATPM) or electric vehicle dealer to provide home charging installation services for every purchase of an electric vehicle.
“So, every time there is a buyer of an electric vehicle (electric car“PLN officers will go directly to the buyer’s house to install home charging, so that they can be more comfortable using electric vehicles,” he explained.
