France National Team Defense Shuffles Ahead of Matches Against Netherlands and Scotland

With the withdrawals of Jules Koundé, Dayot Upamecano, then that of Axel Disasi, Didier Deschamps called up Malo Gusto and Castello Lukeba this Monday for the two matches of the France team, against the Netherlands (Friday October 13) and Scotland (Tuesday October 17).

A revamped defense. Didier Deschamps lost three major elements to face the Netherlands in the qualifiers for Euro 2024: Jules Koundé, Dayot Upamecano and Axel Disasi. Consequently, the Barcelonan, the Municher and the Londoner are replaced in the group by RB Leipzig defenders Castello Lukeba and Chelsea Malo Gusto.

Released prematurely on Sunday during Granada-FC Barcelona (2-2), Jules Koundé suffers from a “sprain of the medial collateral ligament of the left knee”, indicates a press release from the FFF this Monday. Dayot Upamecano suffers from “a left hamstring injury”, while Axel Disasi did not want to take any risks after “quadriceps pain”.

Called up with Thierry Henry’s Espoirs, Malo Gusto will finally move up a level and join the A. For his first season in the Chelsea jersey, Malo Gusto played seven matches in all competitions, but has not played since the defeat against Aston Villa on September 24.

The Blues face the Netherlands in Amsterdam on Friday October 13 (8:45 p.m.) as part of qualifying for Euro 2024, then Scotland on Tuesday October 17, in a friendly, at the Pierre-Mauroy stadium in Lille. Two opportunities for the two new players called up to celebrate their first selection with the A.
