Wiesbaden (dts news agency) The deputy federal chairman of the Jusos, Philipp Türmer, criticizes Nancy Faeser (SPD) and calls for consequences from the SPD’s election defeat in Hesse. During the election campaign, Faeser was unable to benefit from the dual role as Federal Interior Minister and top candidate, Türmer told “Spiegel”. “On the contrary: This made it very easy for the CDU to turn a state political confrontation into an anti-traffic light election campaign.”
Their approach was “a mistake from today’s perspective”. The Social Democrat criticized that technical errors were made in the election campaign and the party also failed to get through its core messages. The SPD must now “work through these mistakes and draw conclusions from them,” said Türmer, who wants to become the new federal chairman of the Jusos in November.
“It is clear that the entire party needs to renew itself,” said Türmer. Such renewal must come from the municipalities. It’s not just about Faeser, but about the entire state leadership.
“The technical errors in the election campaign primarily affect the Secretary General,” said the Juso vice-president. “It certainly wasn’t helpful how parliamentary group leader Günter Rudolph brought himself into the conversation shortly before the election as deputy prime minister in a grand coalition. Those who were responsible for the election campaign must now also take responsibility for the result.”
A federal political lesson from the elections in Bavaria and Hesse must be that the traffic light coalition needs a policy change, said Türmer. “Attributing this to fiber alone would not be enough. Now it’s up to the Chancellor.”
Scholz can no longer accept “that the FDP with its austerity policy is the brake on the entire country,” said Türmer. He called on the traffic light to abandon the debt brake. “All industrialized countries are currently taking out loans to invest. Above all in the climate transformation of their industry and society. Only Germany is sticking to the debt brake. This is irresponsible and economic madness,” said Türmer.
“This government needs a clear social democratic line. The first half of the traffic lights was nothing, the second half has to be better.”
