El Moscardón Amateur Theater Contest: Recognizing Excellence in Amateur Theater

More than 70 amateur theater companies sent their works, with six being selected to show their works in Lorca in recent weeks.

The mayor of San Fernando de Henares, Javier Corpa, as well as the Councilor for Culture and Celebrations, Pablo Sanz, accompanied by other councilors of the Corporation, attended the closing of the ‘El Moscardón’ Amateur Theater Contest.

A contest that came to an end yesterday with an emotional gala presented by the ventriloquist and comedian Jaime Figueroa and spiced with the music of the group ‘Cherrie and the Ladies’, which ended up bringing the audience to its feet.

This festival has grown in interest in recent years and, proof of this, is that more than 70 amateur theater companies have sent their works to participate in this edition, with the six that have shown their works in recent weeks being selected.

The level and quality of the works represented have made the jury’s decision difficult when issuing its ruling but, in the end, these have been the winners:

– Award a la best male supporting performance: Alberto San Emeterio from the La Canilla Teatro Cultural Association theater group for his performance in ‘Vientos de Levante’

– Award a la best female supporting performance: Marta Martínez, from the La Canilla Teatro Cultural Association group for her performance in ‘Vientos de Levante’

– Award a la best male lead performance: Ulises Hernández, from the Sol y Sombra theater group for his performance in ‘Cuaderno para el uso de la Poncia y Bernarda’

– Award a la best female lead performance: Cecilia Cobos from the Twister Teatro Group, for her performance in ‘When you don’t see the light’

– Award a la best stage direction: Verónica Hellín and Karlo André Palomino from the group Asociación Cultural Musicales 3C for ‘Seis, el musical’.

In addition, they have been granted the third, second and first prize a:

Third award: awarded €300 to the best company to the Twister Teatro Cultural Association for ‘When you don’t see the light’

Second prize: awarded with €600 to the best company to Sol y Sombra for ‘Notebook for the use of Poncia and Bernarda.

First prize: awarded with €1000 for the best company to Asociación Cultural Musicales 3C for ‘Seis, el musical’.

On the other hand, the Department of Culture, organizer of the contest, has decided to grant a honorable mention to the San Fernando de Henares senior theater group ‘Alfa Día’who participated by opening the Exhibition out of competition, in recognition of his ability to create and stage the show ‘Los sainetes de Alfa Día’.

Likewise, the Department of Culture has decided to grant a honorable mention to the Collective of Plastic Artists for their long collaboration with this contest, making the artisan trophy.

As the mayor, Javier Corpa, pointed out during this gala, in which the new cultural season was also presented, “San Fernando de Henares is culture and proof of this is an agenda full of events for all audiences without leaving Our city”.

For his part, the Councilor for Culture and Celebrations, Pablo Sanz, thanked all the participants for “the level and quality of the works represented” (…); “Every year the variety of styles and genres is greater and the performances are excellent,” he said.
