“The recent report from the Region on the Breton airport plan demonstrated, with supporting figures, that Nantes is to date (in number of travelers) the leading airport for Bretons! Spot the mistake… Lorient could therefore participate in this mobility in the south of the region, and thus reduce the carbon footprint of Bretons who go to Nantes to catch their plane. To do this, the territory’s political leaders will need to be able to speak with one voice on this issue.”
We must work together with Rennes and Nantes.
Making the voice of an entire region heard
Olivier Galzi discusses the ongoing reflection carried out by the Brittany Region on its airport plan. “This demonstrates the importance of Lorient airport as a gateway to the south.” It also highlights the metropolitan alliance for transport around which the agglomerations of Lorient and Vannes, Quimperlé Community, Auray Quiberon Terre Atlantique, Blavet Bellevue Océan community, Gulf of Morbihan Vannes agglomeration are located. “These five intermunicipalities together represent more than half a million inhabitants, the largest population area in Brittany. This basin is the natural catchment area of Lorient airport. It’s time to make that voice heard.”
For his part, Fabrice Loher is convinced “that there is a future for Lorient airport” but recognizes that “the air transport model will evolve a lot”. And for Lorient airport to be part of this future development, “we must work together with Rennes and Nantes”.
