The US Thionville Lusitanos reserve lost to Boulay (2-3) this Sunday, while leading 2-0.
After two great opportunities created by Callegari (17th) and Djecta, whose 20-meter free kick bounced off the post (29th), Joris Di Grégorio’s men thought they had done the hard part by opening the scoring through Caloiero. The latter took advantage of a poor recovery from the Boulage defense to play against the CAB goalkeeper and push the ball deep (1-0, 34th). Then, the Thionville striker did it again nine minutes later after being served in an ideal position by Djecta (2-0, 43rd).
Long short of opportunities against the local defense, Frank Weber’s players were going to get their heads right side up straight away. Zeimet’s throw-back for Schneider allowed the defender to unlock his team’s counter with a flat foot flush with Dropsy’s post (2-1, 45th).
Returning from the locker room, the Thionvillois continued to pack a punch. Caloiero, with a poorly adjusted lob (52nd), then Belgacem, with a shot that wasn’t strong enough (57th), were very close to adding to the score.
A missed penalty in the final minutes
But it was Boulay who brought life and completely revived the end of the match. Teixeira first took advantage of a risky recovery from Dropsy to equalize (2-2, 67th). Returning to the score, the Boulageois even took the advantage thanks to Schneider, receiving a cross from Camara (2-3, 81st).
The USTL had the possibility of snatching a draw in stoppage time following a foul on Caloiero. But the penalty taken by Belgacem was repelled by Cascino (90th +2).
