At the opening ceremony, the calligraphy club members sang the commemorative theme “NEXT STAGE – Kashiwaha’s tradition transcends centuries” to the song “Idemo” by DREAMS COME TRUE, whose vocals are Miwa Yoshida, a 34th generation student. I wrote some of the lyrics. Her alumnus, ocarina player Mikako Honyami (32nd class), played “Daichi no Tabi” and gave a pure tone.
At the ceremony, Principal Sudo said, “The history and tradition of our school was built through the support of many enthusiastic and loving teachers and everyone involved in our school, and the continued dedication of our students. I promise you that we will continue to create a new history in the “NEXT STAGE,”” he said in his ceremony address. Yoshihiro Hosokawa, chairman of the commemorative project sponsors’ association, greeted the students by saying, “The 100th anniversary is not the end point, but a time to feel the spirit of Kashiwaba that our predecessors have carried together, and to renew our commitment to the development of our alma mater.”
Hiroshi Kuramoto, Superintendent of the Hokkaido Board of Education, and Norihisa Yonezawa, Mayor of Obihiro, gave congratulatory speeches, and President Hosokawa presented letters of appreciation to past principals and PTA presidents. A documentary video of DreamCam’s live performance, to which all students were invited, was also shown, and a message from Dreamcam was introduced. The brass band performed the commemorative song “Hymn to Centenary” conducted by composer Junichi Naito.
Haruku Aoto (3rd year), full-time student council president, said, “I will do my best to make this school proud even 100 years from now,” and Yuma Fujiishi (4th year), part-time student council president. “I’m proud to be enrolled part-time and to be able to study,” he said in greeting.
