End clap for a French international. At 36, a player trained at Olympique Lyonnais, who played for OM and Chelsea, says goodbye to the world of professional football. A look back at his career full of twists and turns.
“A lot of injuries over the last 6 months in Brest”
He was one of the best active Ligue 1 scorers. Having played for 14 different clubs, a striker who played for the French team has just announced his professional retirement at the age of 36. It was on the Amazon Prime Video set that Loïc Rémy announced the end of his career live. “After careful consideration, I have made the decision to stop. […] At some point, the body reaches its limits.” Arriving at Stade Brestois during the 2023 winter transfer window, Rémy unfortunately never had the opportunity to rediscover his former feelings. The fault lies with a fragile physique which has not spared him in recent years. Loïc Rémy had, however, made a name for himself again in Ligue 1 by playing for LOSC between 2018 and 2020. Author of 21 goals in 59 games, the center forward born in Lyon was one of Christophe Galtier’s strong men.

It was in Lyon that it all began for Loïc Rémy. As a symbol, the striker was launched during the 2006/07 season in the boiling derby between OL and ASSE. The same year he discovered the Champions League and won his first French Champion title with OL. Thanks to his early development, Rémy was called up to the French Espoirs team by René Girard in November 2007. A few months later, it was Raymond Domenech who called on a player promised to have a superb destiny in the Blues. Unfortunately for him, he will never succeed in establishing himself in the French team, and will be content to play understudies. He will still participate in the World Cup in Brazil in 2014. In total, Loïc Rémy will play 30 matches with the French team for a total of 13 starts and 7 goals.
448 professional matches for Loïc Rémy
It was especially under the colors of OGC Nice (2008-2010) then OM (2010-2013) that Loïc Rémy shone the most. Fast, versatile and skillful in front of goal, the French striker shared an emblematic duo with Mathieu Valbuena, distributor of caviars at the time. His success at OM will allow Loïc Rémy to discover the Premier League with the Queens Park Rangers. But it was at Newcastle that he was most effective, with 14 goals in 27 matches. Close to signing for Liverpool, he will finally join Chelsea. Unfortunately for him, it was from this moment on that his physique played tricks on him, and he would never again find his level of the 2010s. In total, the former French team striker would play 448 professional matches, scoring 149 goals. A nice result, and a career rich in emotions.
