It has been previously reported that after 27 years, the mastermind behind the murder of world rapper Tupac Shakur has finally been identified and arrested. He is Duane Davis aka Keefe D Davis. Member of the South Side Compton Crips gang.
Amidst the joy of welcoming this appointment, Tupac’s older brother still tried to accept it gracefully. The reason is, it took almost three decades to catch the shooter who killed his younger brother that night in Las Vegas, September 1996.
Tupac’s brother, Mopreme Shakur, claimed that there was a racist issue of skin color that played a role in the 27-year process of determining the suspect. Mopreme said if Tupac was a white man, conditions would be different.
“Pac is a young black man and we have challenges in this country when we talk about justice and equality,” said Mopreme in an interview with Sky News, quoted from NME, Sunday (7/10/2023).
“This is just a natural thing that happens. This is just the nature of America. I’m realistic about that,” Mopreme continued.
On September 29, 2023, police arrested Duane Davis. Tupac’s sister Sekyiwa Set Shakur, who is president of the foundation in his name, shared a statement calling the news a significant moment after years of silence surrounding her brother’s case.
“His life and death mattered, and should not be left unsolved or unacknowledged, so yes, today is a victory but I will withhold judgment until all the facts and the legal process are complete,” he said.
Mopreme was also among those surprised when contacted by the police that the investigation was still ongoing. Mopreme waited so long to joke that his daughter is now 27 years old.
“I’m shocked, shocked and shocked that it’s been so long. We haven’t heard anything for 27 years. My daughter is already 27 years old, so any kind of accountability is actually very good at this point,” said Mopreme.
Tupac died after being shot dead in his car. He died at the age of 25 with the title of best-selling rapper in the world at that time.
