Soon in the United States, thousands of people will have the opportunity to receive up to $5000.00 USD in their mailbox. This will be possible thanks to the state’s Unclaimed Property program.
In this sense, each citizen has the right to verify if they have any and the only thing they have to do is check their mailbox.
Little is known about the subject, but each North American state has an area dedicated to receiving any type of money not received by its recipients.
Here we can find tax refunds, money in abandoned bank accounts or stimulus checks that did not reach their destination. Therefore, this “lost” money is known as Unclaimed Property.
Furthermore, it would be very common for people to start receiving said money and not know that it was actually always theirs.
In this sense, the Treasurer of Illinois, Michael Frerichs, announced that this state will begin sending payments to a certain number of people.
Meanwhile, more than 66,000 residents are in line to receive up to $5,000.00 USD from the state’s Unclaimed Property program. However, it is each person’s responsibility to verify whether he or she has any Unclaimed Property.
What about the specific case of Illinois?
In that state, legislators agreed to increase the automatic payment limit to $5000.00 USD. All this thanks to the treasurer’s agreement with the Illinois General Assembly and in conjunction with the Money Match program.
The goal here is to allow faster payments to residents who are owed money through the Unclaimed Property program.
Thus, since the check shipment was announced in August, Enhanced Money Match letters have been issued to 66,700 eligible residents.
Therefore, nearly $47 million dollars are expected to be returned to residents through the program.
It is also valid to clarify that many of the eligible people have already begun to receive $5000.00 USD in their mailboxes. However, the amount they get will depend on the amount of money they have as unclaimed property.
