Dredge Exceeds Expectations, Sells Over 1 Million Copies

Black Salt Games’ eldric fishing adventure Dredge has sold over 1 million copies since its March 2023 release.

Dredge producer Nadia Thorne and 3D artist Mikey Bastiens spoke about this event during an interview at PAX Australia and noted that the results of the game exceeded their wildest expectations.

“We were hoping to sell 100,000 copies in the first year,” Thorne says. “That would be amazing. It was the highest we set our expectations. We exceeded those expectations.”

According to Thorne, the New Zealand studio initially thought that selling 1 million copies in a year would be an “insane” goal, but Dredge passed the 100,000 copies mark within 24 hours of launch, which shows the prospects.

“We had a party on a yacht,” says Bastiaens, “and we were just updating the sales page going ‘oh my god, oh my god.'”

This achievement has allowed Black Salt to continue to support the project without losing hope, and now the studio is preparing to release the first official expansion for Dredge in the form of The Pale Reach in November 2023.
