Film Fest Gent 2022: Showcasing Homegrown Talent and International Gems

Homegrown talent

Of course, there is a lot of film above all. The festival opens with “Holly” by Fien Troch. This marks the third year in a row that Film Fest Gent is starting with a local production. The official competition also begins with a Belgian production. The Congolese-Belgian director Baloji also plays a little home game with his “Augure”. The man has lived in Ghent for years. The film is the Oscar candidate for our country.

The selection is very varied, there are socially critical films (“Io capitano”, “Critical zone”, “Past lives”), but also more poetic works (“Here”, “Poor things”). The selection also includes the animated film “Siren”. An international jury, which also includes director Lukas Dhont, will decide on the award for the best film.

In addition to the official competition, over 100 other feature films will be shown. There is a particular focus on women’s stories and feminist films. There is also a series of surprise films called “Midnight Cult” and the “Classic” section with the best films from the last 50 editions. 44 short films will be shown and the best Belgian student film will also be awarded. Three television series were also shown on the big screen.
