The World Health Organization announced that more than 5,000 cases of cholera had been recorded in Yemen as of September 15.

In the report published by the World Health Organization on the cholera epidemic in the world, information was provided about the cases seen in Yemen.

In this context, the report stated that 5,674 cases of cholera were monitored in Yemen during the period from January 1 to September 15, 2023, and that there were 7 deaths due to the disease in the same period, and the infection rate reached 19 per thousand.

The civil war has been going on for about 9 years in Yemen, which is considered one of the poorest countries in the world, as the worsening humanitarian crisis has reached dire proportions.

According to the United Nations, more than 22 million of the country’s 30 million people need assistance and protection.

Reasons such as lack of access to clean water, malnutrition, and lack of medicines and medical supplies in the country also invite the spread of epidemic diseases, especially cholera.
