Last July, Daniel Auteuil was scouting at the Draguignan Judicial Court in preparation for his next film, entitled “Le Fil”, as director and performer. The unforgettable Ugolin had not made the trip for nothing. Indeed, on October 23, it is in the Var city that he will begin filming his fifth feature film with several sequences which will take place in this Tribunal.
Daniel Auteuil will also be in front of the camera alongside Grégory Gadebois (the former resident of La Comédie Française, who played François Hollande in “Présidents” by Anne Fontaine), Alice Belaïdi (she was the partner of Auteuil and Jamel Debbouze in “The New Toy” by James Huth), Sidse Babett Knudsen (the Danish actress, César 2016 in a supporting role for her performance in “L’Hermine” with Fabrice Luchini). Surprise from this casting: the presence of a certain Gaëtan Roussel, the singer of Louise Attaque, who will take his first steps as an actor here and will compose the music for “Fil”. We know that Daniel Auteuil, who started singing, was able to count on the support of his friend for his album “If you’re afraid, don’t be afraid (of love)”, released on March 17 last.
A legal drama
With “Le Fil” Daniel Auteuil completely changes register. For this feature film, it will be a legal drama. An adaptation, which he signed with the screenwriter Steven Mitz, of the short story “Au guet-apens”, taken from the collection “Le Livre du Maître Mô” by the lawyer Jean-Yves Moyart (published by Les Arènes).
The story? It is that of Maître Jean Monier, a disenchanted lawyer who no longer takes criminal cases. But by meeting Nicolas Milik, an idle father (played by Grégory Gadebois) accused of having killed his wife, and by discovering elements pointing to his innocence, his world turns upside down. So much so that he is ready to do anything to get this man out of pre-trial detention and help him win his trial, thus rediscovering the meaning of his vocation.
In the Var until November 9
We remember that Daniel Auteuil stepped behind the camera for the first time by directing the remake of Marcel Pagnol’s trilogy: “The Well-Digger’s Daughter” in 2011, followed in 2013 by “Marius” then “Fanny”. Five years later, he directed Gérard Depardieu, Sandrine Kiberlain and himself for “Amoureux de ma femme”, a sentimental comedy on a screenplay by Florian Zeller, adaptation of his play “L’Envers du décor”.
Concerning “Le Fil”, the actor invested a lot in this project which took a few months to come to fruition. With a large budget (6.4 million euros), the film is produced by Hugo Gélin and Nelly Auteuil (Zazi Films) and is co-produced by Daniel Auteuil via his company Zack Films. Filming is scheduled from October 23 to November 9 in Draguignan, before continuing in Bouches-du-Rhône, Arles, and in Camargue from November 21 to 28. It is not by chance that Auteuil chose Arles. He has lived there for two years…
