The 40th German Evangelical Church Congress will take place in Düsseldorf in 2027. The presidium of the Kirchentag announced this on Friday in Fulda. This is the third time the North Rhine-Westphalia state capital has hosted the event, after 1973 and 1985. “The Kirchentag gladly accepts the invitation to Düsseldorf,” said General Secretary Kristin Jahn, according to the announcement. “Church Day stands for dialogue, for cohesion and for engagement in society – what could be more important at the moment? We look forward to celebrating a special major event together with the people in the city and the region for five days, discussing the challenges of our time and looking for solutions,” said Jahn.
“I am pleased that this wonderful format of reflection on the relevance of church and religion for society is taking place in Düsseldorf for the third time and I hope that it will also provide valuable impulses for urban society,” said Thorsten Latzel, President of the Evangelical Church in the Rhineland, to the decision.
“Church days are important events that appeal to many people in very different ways and provide meaning. They address relevant questions – not just of religious relevance, but also of relevance to society as a whole. In doing so, you are making an important contribution to the common good,” said Prime Minister Hendrik Wüst (CDU) about the commitment for 2027.
