After Paris, New York. Pierre-Louis Ferrer, a lover of infrared photography, recently unveiled a new series immortalizing the largest city in the United States like no other. The photo project, entitled Infra NYChighlights the green character of New York.

In two weeks and with three lenses in his bag, Pierre-Louis Ferrer surveyed one of the most photographed cities in the world in order to arrive at a series captured entirely using infrared photography. Contrary to the collective imagination which retains New York for its skyscrapers alone or even for the gigantic Central Park, the artist’s Canon R5C full-spectrum tints the vegetation bright red, which becomes as impressive as the urban planning.

In fact, the artist does not ignore this. On the contrary, it is often at the foot of the vertical city that the trees which attract so little attention from tourists, and which infrared brings out. By opting for fairly wide fieldsPierre-Louis Ferrer shows parks and wooded streets not as separate islands, as rare enclaves in urban space, but as fully integrated into it.

If the plant and the mineral therefore dominate, the habitants are not left out. They too see themselves dressed, quite literally, by infrared which makes them extremely visible, from the bodies of water in Central Park overlooking the tall surrounding buildings to the attractions of Coney Island.

In themselves, the shooting and framing of the twenty photos are largely similar to those that many professional or amateur photographs have already shown. Indeed, the originality of Pierre-Louis Ferrer’s work lies elsewhere, in the photographic techniquewhereby the same subject can give rise to many different results.
