FORNEBU (Nettavisen): “I need you who can stop me in time if you see that I am unknowingly on my way into the women’s toilet at the airport, or can prevent me from being run over by the tram before I have realized my dream of Olympic gold in Paris”, wrote Salum Kashafali in the job advertisement he published in January.
Since then, applications have come in in droves.
– There were 300 who applied – there were quite a few. Now I’ve got quite a few applicants in Oslo and Bergen, who help me with everything from food and training to traveling with me, he says to Nettavisen today.
Kashafali was among the athletes present during an orientation before next year’s Summer Games. It was held at Fornebu last week.

Various assistants
In the last six months, a lot has happened for the 29-year-old. Now he has got several assistants who ensure that everyday life is a little easier. It will come in handy on the road to the Paralympics in Paris next year.
– I have two or three in Oslo and two in Bergen. They are used differently, everyone is good in their own way. It is very nice that people want to follow me on the sports field and in private life. I don’t live an A4 day-to-day, so it’s nice that that person wants to be part of it and found it exciting.

Kashafali has the eye disease Stargardt’s disease and has gradually lost her sight. Even before his sight failed, he played sports and decided to continue with para sports. He now holds the world record for 100 meters and has been named “male para athlete of the year” in Norway on two occasions.
Participates in training
With daily training sessions and several sports-related tasks, it was an advantage for Kashafali to find someone who is fond of sports.
– It is a plus if they are interested in sports. They don’t have to exercise, but they have to be fit enough to go jogging in new areas and lift weights at the gym, so they’re a bit fit.
Kashafali is thus training for the Paralympics and has clear goals for the important competition.
– You want a medal of the right value and of course it is gold.
The sprinter holds the world record for 100 meters in the para class and has previously expressed a dream to compete in the class for the able-bodied. Then also in the very biggest championships.
