Pedro Ovelar, Horacio Cartes’ lawyer, denies the existence of an alleged investigation by prosecutor Pecci against his client.
The former president of Paraguay, Horacio Cartes, has once again been the focus of attention after the publication of a Colombian media that points to an alleged link with the crime of prosecutor Marcelo Pecci. Given this, Pedro Ovelar, Cartes’ lawyer, has come forward to deny this version.
In a communication with radio Chaco Boreal 1330 AM, Ovelar assured that “there is no such alleged investigation” by prosecutor Pecci, murdered in Colombia, against the former president.
“There was definitely no investigation by prosecutor Marcelo Pecci in relation to the former president of the Republic or his companies, or family or close people that could be taken as a starting point for something. In other words, there is no, there was no, there is no such alleged investigation,” he stated bluntly.

Ovelar also took the opportunity to emphasize that there was never any problem with prosecutor Pecci and that anything said or speculated are mere conjectures with the intention of tarnishing Cartes’ name with negative news.
On the other hand, Ovelar considered that this plot must be given a political reading. Alluding to Arnaldo Guzzio, former minister of the Senad and the Interior investigated for his connection with the alleged drug trafficker Marcus Vinicius, he questioned: “Which minister of the Senad and the Interior had close ties with people in drug trafficking? During the government of Horacio Cartes? No”.
Likewise, Ovelar highlighted the management of Sandra Quiñónez, former attorney general of the State, who was defended by Cartes despite the criticism received for the shedding of emblematic cases.
According to Ovelar, Pecci was one of the most important executing arms that Quiñónez had within the Organized Crime Unit.
Finally, the lawyer emphasized that they will always be available to the press and that not talking about this “new plot” would be as if they were hiding something or preparing a defense strategy.
