The La Toison d’Or shopping center in Dijon is welcoming around a hundred soldiers until Saturday October 7. A way to capture the attention of visitors to provide information on the different professions of the armies. More than 35,000 positions are to be filled each year.
It’s a dream come true for Nicolas. The young man listens attentively to the explanations of Captain Lucas, an air force pilot, leaning on the cabin of his Mirage 2000. This Dijon resident came specially to the Toison d’Or to see the aircraft stuck between the JD Sport store and the Yves Rocher boutique.
After completing a diploma in digital communication, he now wishes to retrain in the air force. “When I knew pilots would be there, I rushed to ask them what training was needed to imitate them”he explains, CV in hand.
For two days, around a hundred soldiers are deployed in the gallery of this shopping center to inform the general public of the different professions available to the army. In all, 22 stands manned by soldiers from the different army corps, namely the air and space forces, the army, the national navy and the gendarmerie, are to be discovered.
Objective: create vocations. “The general public is unaware of our activities. The army does not only recruit soldiers but offers very diverse professions from cooks to mechanics to administrative positions.details Staff Sergeant Max.
The opportunity to take advantage of the flow of 30,000 daily visitors to the shopping center. A strategy “win-win” for Christophe Gomart, one of the managers of the Westfield group to which the Golden Fleece. “With the army, the group shares the values of audacity, rigor and commitment”justifies this former army general.

Mélanie and Audrey, both advisors at Pôle emploi, also came to take advantage of this event to better understand the different professions offered by the army. In front of a submariner’s stand, the two young women put themselves in the shoes of a “golden ear”, these soldiers who listen to the external noises picked up by these ships.
The opportunity to discover the complexity of this work but also the training available to occupy this position which has become popular thanks to the film “The song of the wolf”. “The idea is to be informed, to be able to better guide our candidates”summarizes Audrey.

“Some Dijon residents don’t know it but the French Navy is even recruiting in Dijon” laughs the main master Julien. This sailor is looking for profiles capable of joining the French army’s new aircraft carrier, which is scheduled to be launched in 2038. “Training starts now” he warns.
Lana, 12, still plans to pass her baccalaureate before taking the plunge. This schoolgirl from Tournus, very interested in the army, came accompanied by her parents.”She has time to think about it but this way she will have a better idea of what awaits her.“, tempers Stéphane, his dad smiles on his lips.
In total, the different corps of the French army recruit more than 35,000 people each year.
