Minister of Trade Zulkifli Hasan alias Zulhas revealed a new method for importing second-hand clothing into Indonesia. According to him, now the method of naughty importers is to smuggle used imported clothes by packaging them as if they were new.
“Used clothes now have a new appearance, so they are tidied up and used in plastic,” said Zulhas when met at the Ministry of Trade, Friday (6/10/2023).
For this reason, the government will further tighten supervision and confiscation of imported used clothes. This tightening of supervision is of course also in collaboration with law enforcement officials (APH) and the Task Force (Satgas).
“We must tighten supervision over illegal products, which are currently flooding in, like yesterday we burned used clothes and so on. This must also be done, in collaboration with APH, the task force, to be dealt with firmly,” he said.
Previously, DJBC’s Director of Communications and Service User Guidance, Nirwala Dwi Heryanto, said there was a mode of importing used imported clothes by bringing various other goods. Then usually, the smugglers’ ships traveled at night.
“There are many methods, how do they want to trick Customs. For example, it is covered with fish, they say fishermen. It turns out that some of the goods were brought by used clothes from abroad,” said Nirwala, to detikcom at the DJBC Head Office. , East Jakarta, written Saturday (31/12/2022).
Apart from that, the methods used by smugglers are not the only ones. Customs and Excise discovered at least six methods when arresting second-hand clothing import smugglers.
