Ministry of Public Health Launches Influenza Vaccination Campaign in Partnership with WHO

The Ministry of Public Health, in cooperation with the World Health Organization, launched the vaccination campaign for the influenza season, under the patronage of the Minister of Public Health, Firas Al-Abyad, and in the presence of the World Health Organization representative, Dr. Abdel Nasser Abu Bakr.

Al-Abyad announced that the Ministry has a national influenza program and a specialized laboratory at Rafik Hariri University Hospital, noting that “last year’s influenza season was harsh, and this year there will be a large wave of influenza in Lebanon, and it is our duty as the Ministry of Health to prepare for this wave.”

Al-Abyad stressed “the importance of launching this campaign, especially after the arrival of a donation of 10,000 influenza vaccine doses to the Ministry of Health,” pointing out that “this issue is essential to protect society and help raise the level of community immunity to limit the spread of this disease.”

In his speech, Al-Abyad pointed out that “the target groups will be health workers in primary health care centers and government hospitals affiliated with the Ministry of Health,” noting that “there will be a special program for homes for the elderly, as they are among the groups most vulnerable to severe influenza infection.”

The Minister of Health stressed two points: “The first is that the launch of the seasonal influenza vaccination campaign today and the launch of the breast cancer awareness campaign yesterday reflect that the Ministry of Public Health is determined to carry out all its duties towards protecting society and its health.”

He continued: “Secondly, we praise the efforts made by workers in the Ministry of Public Health, the Primary Health Care Program, and workers in other programs, who, when new responsibilities are assigned to them, take the initiative to assume them in order to protect their community.”

He added: “This is not strange, as we have all seen, especially in the Corona crisis and many situations, that they were serving the community 24/7.”

Al-Abyad also thanked “the workers in the Ministry of Health in particular and the workers in the health sector in general for doing everything necessary and for delaying in light of the difficult crisis in Lebanon,” reminding that “the Ministry, in cooperation with the World Health Organization, UNICEF, its other international partners, its local partners, and the workers in the Ministry and its programs, will be keen to do “They will carry out their full duties to ensure the health of society.”
