Arrest and Seizure of Motorcyclists Carrying Drugs in Beirut: Beirut Municipality Public Relations Department Statement

The Public Relations Department of the Beirut Municipality announced in a statement, “A patrol from the Guard Regiment was alerted, at 5:30 p.m. yesterday, while carrying out a mission in Riad Al-Solh, of a motorcycle with two people on board that was traveling at high speed. Before arriving at the patrol point, the bike driver turned around.” On his bike, trying to flee to the other side of the public road, he collided with a four-wheel-drive car that was passing by, causing the person on the bike to fall to the ground, who was carrying a military pistol. Immediately, the patrol members worked to arrest him before he could withdraw his weapon. His companion who was accompanying him on the bike pulled out his military pistol, which was prepared to fire at the patrol members, and the patrol members succeeded in pulling the gun from him without him being able to use it. Upon searching them, 7 narcotic pills were found in their possession, and they were arrested and handed over with the bike they were on. On board, and does not carry legal plates, in addition to the seized items, they must be sent to the competent authorities to take legal action against them.”

The statement also stated that the same patrol was able to arrest two Syrians: A.Z., born in 1999 and B.B., born in 2004, in central Beirut, near Martyrs’ Square, who were riding an illegal motorcycle. When they were searched, they found in their possession a quantity of drugs, including bags of marijuana, crystal drugs, Tramadol pills, and others. Immediately, they were handed over, along with the bike and the seized items, to the legal authorities to take legal action against them.
