The Future of the Skoda Kodiaq: New RS Version with Powerful Petrol Engine and Four-Wheel Drive

The second edition of the Kodiaq will be launched with a range of pure combustion, mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid power units, with the current highlights being a two-liter petrol and a fifteen-cylinder plug-in hybrid, both with a system output of 204 horsepower. However, this is to change during the production cycle.

It is on the way according to Coach even the RS version, which in the first generation first relied on a diesel unit before switching to a petrol engine after the facelift.

Skoda technical development chief Johannes Neft was tight-lipped about the details of the reborn performance SUV, but did reveal, “We’re working on it,” as quoted by the Brits.

The success of the first Kodiaq RS will most likely require a successor, which could be launched as early as 2024.

Neft said it “may not” use a plug-in hybrid powertrain and hinted it would offer four-wheel drive. The most likely candidate is therefore the 265-horsepower two-liter turbocharged gasoline engine available in the closely related Volkswagen Tiguan. The concern’s plug-in hybrids on the MQB Evo platform are front-wheel drive.

As before, the RS would differ from the standard Kodiaq, for example, with bumpers, wheel designs and contrasting decorative elements, following on from the visually sharpened version of the Sportline, which was already presented as part of the premiere of the standard car.
