Minister of Education Engages with Students on Belonging and Identity at Theodor Fliedner School

Minister of Education Prof. Dr. On Wednesday, Alexander Lorz visited the high school performing arts course at the Theodor Fliedner School in Wiesbaden and exchanged ideas with the students about home, family, identity and belonging. Lorz explained: “The understanding of fundamental values such as family, friendship and home is crucial for our coexistence. The search for belonging is a timeless and universal topic that every person can feel affected by, regardless of their origins.”

The Minister of Education had previously watched the video production “Türkland” with the class. The play is about a young woman from Turkey who grows up in Germany and returns to Turkey after her marriage, as well as her search for identity and belonging. The author and protagonist, Ms. Budak-Sarıoğlu, also took part in the subsequent discussion. Finally, the minister said: “I would like to thank you very much for the interesting insights and perspectives provided during today’s course.”

“Türkland” is aimed at students from the tenth grade onwards. The soundtrack switches between Turkish and German with respective subtitles. The Hessian Ministry of Culture supports this digital on-demand offer, free of charge for schools, as part of the “Löwenstark – the BildungsKICK” program.
