The Red Cross is a “beacon” amidst the challenges of everyday life, says the PtD

The Red Cross is the immovable beacon amidst the challenges of everyday life, and a constant support of society at all levels, said the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulidis, in his greeting at the love dinner of the Cyprus Red Cross held at the Presidential Palace on the evening of Wednesday.

In his greeting, President Christodoulidis, noting that solidarity is “the strongest element of social cohesion” from the origins of human civilization, stated that the Red Cross, at an international level, since 1859, when Henry Dunant envisioned its creation, has bear the greatest share of responsibility for the provision of support to all who are suffering and struggling to cope with life’s difficulties.

He noted that the event aims to support the Cyprus Red Cross “for the pleasant and varied work it carries out”, and specifically, the Social Welfare program of the Nicosia Branch. He stated that this program is part of the broader policy of the Cypriot Red Cross “and aims at the practical and substantial support of our vulnerable compatriots without discrimination and separation, and this has its importance, because human pain and misery has no color, gender , age, religion or political ideology’.

Within this exact context, he added, “the Red Cross is the immovable beacon amidst the challenges of everyday life, it is the undisturbed, stable support of our society, at all levels”.

President Christodoulidis, stating that one can only praise the people who set as their life’s goal its construction, its strengthening and its rightful recognition as the most important humanitarian organization in the world, said that the same applies to the Cyprus Red Cross. He expressed his “unlimited appreciation” and his “absolute respect” and his thanks to Fotini Papadopoulou, “who is known to everyone, dedicated all of her “being” to this universal cause”, but also to those who support the efforts of the Cyprus Red Cross.

Thanking those who contributed to the organization of the event, he said that they are setting an example “and towards you, as a State, but also me personally, we have the obligation to support you and strengthen even more the effort to continue your work undivided”.

In closing, President Christodoulidis expressed the wish but also the promise that the Red Cross will continue to be the strong social ally of man in the fight against any difficulties.
