Beirut, October 4, 2023 (Xinhua) – Commander of the German Armed Forces, Carsten Breuer, announced today (Wednesday) the provision of aid to the Lebanese army, including fuel and medical materials.
This came, according to the Lebanese Army website, after Brewer’s meeting with the Army Commander, General Joseph Aoun, where he discussed ways of cooperation between the armies of the two countries.
Brewer said that aid will be provided to the Lebanese army, including an amount of fuel worth one million euros and an amount of medical supplies worth one million euros.
The Lebanese Army Command announced at the end of last August that the State of Qatar had decided to supply the Lebanese Army with fuel for a period of 6 months worth $30 million, as part of supporting its ability to continue in light of the current crisis in Lebanon.
Since late 2019, Lebanon has been suffering from a severe financial and economic crisis that the World Bank classified as among the worst in the world in 150 years, and was embodied in the scarcity of foreign currency, the collapse of the Lebanese pound, and high rates of poverty, unemployment, and inflation.
The Lebanese Army has been greatly affected by the country’s crisis, and in the past two years, following a virtual international conference held in 2021, organized by France and with the assistance of the United Nations, it has received financial, supply, and logistical aid, including spare parts and equipment maintenance. /end of news/
