EADaily today, October 4, reported that Russian athletes will not compete at the 2024 Youth Olympic Games, as reported by the press service of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). Earlier, Soviet Sport published a statement from the International Olympic Committee, which stated that no neutral athlete individually could compete in Gangwon-do.
However, then the IOC stated that they did not prohibit Russians from competing at the 2024 Youth Olympics: “At this stage no individual neutral athlete is qualified to compete in the Games. No further decision was made.”
As a reminder, the Winter Youth Olympic Games will be held from January 19 to February 2, 2024 in Gangwon-do, South Korea. And this is how the Honored Figure Skating Coach of the USSR reacted to another IOC trick Tatiana Tarasova:
«Beasts! I think that this decision may extend to the main Olympics in Paris. The IOC has voiced its position. Well, they are pigs!”
Olympic champion and State Duma deputy Svetlana Zhurova commented on the news much more restrainedly:
“In my opinion, there are several interesting circumstances behind this that should be mentioned. Firstly, The IOC is afraid and is trying to prevent a wave of protests here that arose against the backdrop of UEFA’s proposal to admit our youth football teams to tournaments. Secondly, this statement they want to weaken Russia’s reserve in the form of young people, make them doubt and think about changing their sports citizenship. They can see the results of Russian juniors in various competitions, not only winter ones.”
And since Svetlana Sergeevna remembered football, let us inform you that today, October 4, the FIFA Council allowed Russian teams to participate in the World Championships among youth and girls (under 17 years old), if they successfully complete the qualifying competitions.
The International Football Federation made the decision as the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) softened its position on Russia last week.
FIFA decided: Russian teams will be able to play in tournaments under the auspices of an organization called the Russian Football Union, and not Russia, and without a flag and anthem. In addition, our guys will perform in neutral colors.
Earlier, the UEFA executive committee asked the union’s leadership to propose a technical solution that would allow the Russian U‑17 teams (both girls and boys) to be reinstated.
The FIFA Council also confirmed that the remaining decisions taken on February 28, 2022 “remain in force until the end of the conflict,” the statement said.
Let us remind you that after the UEFA decision, a number of European teams announced a boycott of matches with the Russians.
