Pope Francis indicated that the upcoming COP28 summit, hosted by Dubai on November 30, could lead to “binding approaches to the energy transition.”
Announcement
Pope Francis called on the COP28 summit, which will be held in a few weeks in Dubai, to reach “binding methods” regarding the energy transition, saying that responses to global warming “are not sufficient, and the world is collapsing.”
“Let us put an end once and for all” to “irresponsible” positions that “present this topic as only green and romantic, and too often ridicule it for the sake of economic interests,” the Pope added on Wednesday.
He continued in the 12-page letter, “There is no doubt that the impact of climate change will cause increasing harm to the lives of many people and families. We will feel its impact in the areas of health, sources of employment, access to resources, housing, forced migration, and other areas.”
However, Pope Francis pointed out that the upcoming COP28 summit, hosted by Dubai on November 30, could lead to “binding approaches to the energy transition that have three characteristics: they are effective, they are binding, and they can be easily monitored” if the participants reach binding agreements on… Transitioning from fossil fuel sources to clean energy sources such as wind and solar energy.
He explained that only a real commitment to change could lead to “restoring the credibility of international politics.”
