Although fall began on October 22, the New York area has experienced summer days.
Thursday is another one of those days with afternoon highs in the 80s, except along the coast where highs will be in the mid to upper 70s.
However, those warm temperatures will begin to drop Thursday as high pressure moves offshore and a frontal low pressure system approaches from the west. Not only will temperatures begin to drop into the 70s and 60s over the weekend, but the chance for rain will also return, especially Friday afternoon into Saturday night.

The warm weather continues through Friday. However, a cooling trend begins this weekend, especially Sunday. A strong cold front will approach Friday, and move across the area Saturday into Saturday night, bringing with it increasing chances for showers late Friday into Saturday. pic.twitter.com/BY3fe4gKfi

Saturday could be rainy if the front manages to take advantage of some tropical moisture in the Atlantic associated with Tropical Storm Philippe as it heads toward New England and Canada. The break in the rain would come on Sunday before the humidity returns for the start of the work week.
While Saturday could be the wettest of the two weekend days, Sunday will definitely be the coldest with highs just barely reaching 60 degrees and gusty winds continuing into the work week as well.
