Ford Temporarily Lays Off 300 Workers Due to Detroit Car Manufacturers’ Strike

The US car company “Ford” announced on Monday that it has temporarily laid off more than 300 workers, taking into account the negative impact of the workers’ strike at the three largest Detroit car manufacturers.

“Ford” states that the company’s production system is interconnected, so the strike organized by the union “United Auto Workers (UAW)” also affects factories that are not currently participating in the strike.

“Approximately 330 employees have been asked not to come to work,” the company explains, adding that a total of 930 workers have already been temporarily dismissed due to the strike.

Car manufacturers “General Motors” and “Stellantis” have also temporarily laid off employees for this reason.

As reported, the employees of “Ford”, “General Motors” and “Stellantis” are on strike from September 15, and this is the first time that the strikes are taking place in all three major Detroit automobile companies at the same time.

Last weekend, the strike was extended once again and now involves around 25,000 workers.

The UAW has demanded a 40% increase in workers’ wages, in line with the pay increases of General Motors, Ford and Stellantis managers in recent years. Also, among the union’s other demands are the establishment of a four-day work week and the restoration of automatic wage increases tied to inflation. The union also wants stricter limits on how long a worker is considered a temporary worker who does not receive union support.
