REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — Chicken pox (varicella) is still often underestimated by some people. Not infrequently, children suffer chicken pox still allowed to go to school by parents and teachers.
DR Dr Anggraini Alam SpA(K), Head of the IDAI Tropical Disease Infection Coordination Work Unit (UKK), advised children who have signs of chickenpox not to go to school first. Varicella is a disease that is highly contagious and can cause complications and even death.
“There are parents who feel it’s a shame if they don’t go to school, or if there’s no one at home, it’s better to just go to school, but if you have signs of illness, you have to stay home and not go to school,” said Dr. Anggraini in an online meeting, Tuesday (3/10/2023).
Doctor Anggraini gave the example of a case where only 10 out of 40 children in one class went to school due to infection. According to him, this is actually too late because more and more people are infected.
So, if one person has chickenpox, they should go to medical services more quickly for early detection. The quicker the consultation, the better.
“Children today are as busy as employees, not going to school for a while is already a lot of work, it’s best to go to the doctor immediately because it might be detected early, treated, what’s more important is so that relatives, people in the same household who are not yet protected, can be given the vaccine immediately,” he explained.
A person can get chickenpox from the incubation period, starting from five days or a week ago. To get rid of chickenpox, the first thing you need to remember is vaccination.
For those who have been vaccinated, but still get chicken pox, it is better to get treated quickly. Once treated, try not to break the lesion to avoid the risk of pockmarks, skin scars or scars. Often chickenpox lesions are scratched, causing scars. “Chicken pox is not actually deep, it doesn’t cause scars or pockmarks. “There are traces, but they will disappear in a few months, especially if you dry them diligently in the sun, they will quickly disappear for the whites,” he continued.
For scars or pockmarks on the cheeks and stomach, they won’t disappear. However, if what is meant by round white marks, they will usually disappear in three to six months.
