Huawei to build its own chip factory
Four Taiwanese companies are helping him with this
However, the US and the citizens of the island do not like this
Huawei is building several secret factories for chips and semiconductor components in southern China. The agency has repeatedly informed about it Bloomberg. However, it now emerges that Huawei has invited several Taiwanese companies specializing in the production of semiconductor components to cooperate.
Kirin made in China
Huawei has been banned from cooperating with American partners since May 2019. In addition, the sanctions also aim to prevent Huawei from cooperating with non-American partners that use US technology.
The blockade of the Chinese giant is quite significant and limited its activities to such an extent that it was not allowed to implement 5G modems or modern chipsets in its phones – models that are no more than one year old. To increase the competitiveness of its smartphones, Huawei has had Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corp (SMIC) in China produce advanced chips for the Mate 60 model series.
Don’t overlook
Huawei Mate 60 Pro disassembled to the last screw: how is this even possible?
As a reminder: the entire Huawei Mate 60 series has a Kirin 9000S chipset with a 7nm architecture and a clock speed of up to 2.62 GHz. It has both 5G and LTE at its disposal, as well as a powerful Maleoon 910 graphics unit. This is a big deal for China, because Huawei was able to escape US sanctions thanks to the construction of its own omnipotent chip. That is, at least on the domestic market – he does not plan to go to Europe with Kirin yet.
If Huawei can’t, will Taiwan help?
However, Huawei is now trying to build a completely own semiconductor factory so that it does not have to use the services of SMIC. According to Bloomberg, Taiwanese companies Topco Scientific, L&K Engineering, United Integrated Services and Cica-Huntek Chemical Technology Taiwan are helping him with the construction.
It was the latter that stated on its website in the past that it had established cooperation with Chinese manufacturers Shenzhen Pensun Technology and Pengxinwei IC Manufacturing. The catch is that both companies are closely linked to Huawei and are therefore both on the US sanctions list. Cica-Huntek subsequently withdrew the message from the website.
The merger of a Chinese firm under US sanctions and a company from Taiwan, which the US diplomatically oversees, could raise the ire of both the United States and the citizens of the island in the East China Sea. In January of next year, elections are planned in Taiwan, and the country is currently fighting a lot to get out of the zone of Chinese influence. In addition, China threatens Taiwan diplomatically and militarily.
