UTAH – Destroying restored junk cars on a dirt field is a favorite pastime of demolition derby driver Star Giles. She also likes to have her hair, nails and eyelashes done, which is why guys don’t take her seriously. However, she claims that she loves demolition derby.
The 26-year-old single mother of two and business owner from Utah, US, says people are shocked when she tells them she builds her own cars and then competes by crashing them into other cars. “I love having my hair done, smelling good and being pampered as much as I love being covered in oil. I think because I’m pretty, people don’t understand how I can do both.” she revealed to New York Post.
Giles, who discovered her love for demolition derby at the age of fifteen, was initially shocked by how few women took part in the sport. “Demolition derby driving is where you repair old cars and then compete with other drivers by crashing the vehicles into each other. There are certain things you can do where the last car standing wins.”
He also shares his hobby on social networks. For example, she reported on Instagram that she broke her arm in two while driving. This hobby is said to have revealed her fighting side. Star likes to show that she can do everything that men can do and sometimes even better.
According to her own words, the American woman is proud of the fact that no one sponsors her and she pays for everything from her own pocket. “Just because I’m a woman, I have to work twice as hard to get the respect that other men get automatically.” she revealed. However, regardless of her success, she admitted that men in the industry usually shun her and don’t take her seriously. He also can’t just hang out with his derby buddies because their wives assume he has ulterior motives.
Giles’ former boyfriends even made inappropriate comments about her attractive looks and love of derby. “My ex once told me he didn’t know if I would ever find a man man enough to handle me” she mentioned. But as she pointed out, she will not allow anyone to discourage her from her passion. “For me, it’s one extreme or the other. Either I’m well-groomed and look cute, or I’m working on cars.”
Star likes to pamper herself. She loves massages that help her feel confident. At the same time, she hopes that her unconventional hobby will encourage other women and show everyone that there are no male and female hobbies.
