Nationalists Resume ‘Language Patrols’ in Kazakhstan, Targeting Government Officials with Lack of Kazakh Language Skills

Nationalists in Kazakhstan have resumed conducting “language patrols.” This was reported by the Orient Express news agency.

According to the agency, three nationalist bloggers Dias Kuzayir, Adilzhan Abdugali and Adil Yusupovlong known for inciting ethnic hatred in Kazakhstan, paid a visit to the akimat (administration) of the city of Altai (formerly Zyryanovsk) in the East Kazakhstan region.

Entering the offices, on the doors of which there are signs with Russian surnames, they started conversation in Kazakh language. After it became clear that the akimat employee did not speak it, the provocateurs switched to Russian, asking everyone the same question:

“How can you hold a public position without knowing the state language?”
