“They are able to return to work tomorrow! The request to extend the work permit is accepted,” said Aïssa Diop from the office of the Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada.
Following a publication by the Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada, Marc Miller, on the X platform which prided itself on having resolved the matter, The newspaper entered into communication with Mme Branco who was not able to confirm the news, despite emails received earlier in the day.
“I received an email in English to tell me that the request had been accepted, even though we always communicated in French [et] online, the status still had not changed,” underlines Isabelle Branco, confused by this situation.
The minister’s office finally confirmed to Journal the news in the evening, emphasizing in passing that their applications for permanent residence were still being processed, but at the “final stage” and “that a response will be issued shortly”.
“It’s really a great outcome, but I don’t want to get carried away yet,” admits the one who plans to believe the news only when she has confirmation that the work permits are accepted.
Since Thursday, Isabelle Branco and her husband Jean-Louis Ménard, both family doctors in Rivière-Rouge, were no longer authorized to practice their profession because of an error made in transmitting documents to Immigration Canada.
The couple who live in the Laurentians, with their two children aged 12 and 15, are also awaiting confirmation that Cassandre and Pierre can resume classes and work.
