Following Pokémon Go, Niantic introduced a new game that added GPS functionality to the existing popular IP. Monster Hunter Now, released on September 14th, is the main character.
Monster Hunter Now is a game that combines Capcom’s popular hunting action game Monster Hunter IP with the GPS function installed in smartphones.
Unlike the original, where the character on the screen moves around to find the monster and start hunting, the difference is that the user finds the location of the monster, moves to it with their smartphone, and starts hunting.
It is more cumbersome than the original in that the user has to go through the added effort of moving their own steps, but the battle is much more simplified than the original, which requires familiarity with complex controls and fighting for a long time at a time.
During the 75-second battle time, users can narrowly avoid monster attacks and utilize Thirst Evasion, which can inflict large damage, and skills set differently for each piece of equipment. If you touch the screen for a long time, the one-handed sword activates defense, the great sword activates a combined slash, and the hammer activates a combined attack.

In addition, depending on the weapon, you can use the Monster Hunter series’ unique combo action, which involves touching and swiping the screen during a normal attack to link it to another attack. At first, only one-handed swords can be used, but as the game progresses, new weapons can be used to enhance the sense of purpose.
The biggest advantage of Monster Hunter Now is that although it is simple to operate, it is definitely fun to hunt. However, just as Pokemon Go received somewhat disappointing reviews due to a lack of content at the beginning of its release, it is unfortunate that Monster Hunter Now also has poor content. The key appears to be how quickly new monsters and content can be added through future updates.
