Mary London expressed his grievances after failing to win a medal in the women’s long jump final due to the controversy in Asian Games 2023.

Indonesia’s top long jump athlete was only able to finish 10th by recording a best jump of 5.98 meters.

Maria Londa’s failure to win a medal in the long jump final at the 2023 Asian Games was due to the referee’s controversial decision in the third jump.

The referee deemed the Indonesian athlete to have committed a foul so his jump had to be disallowed. In fact, the prefix board step line detection device did not turn on.

“Every competition has different feelings, but this is quite a bit for me, that’s how it is. Because my third jump was disallowed by the jury. It was declared a fault,” said Maria Londa after the competition.

“Even though in the video that I saw, there was no fault at all because there was still some distance, but what they disallowed for the fault was my flying leg,” he continued.

There was a long debate between Maria and the match officials. The match was delayed for quite a long time because of this controversial decision.

“I said, clearly my feet were forward because I was jumping forward. If you saw it flying there would definitely be a fault, therefore my footing position was not faulty at all. We could see it,” said Maria Londa.

The senior athlete explained that the controversial decision polemic had been a debate since the previous world championship. This new regulation has also sparked debate at the 2023 Asian Games.
