Police: Over 300 shot and killed in Sweden since 2016 – 48 of them teenagers
– The figures show that Sweden stands out internationally when it comes to young people who have been killed in shooting incidents, says intelligence chief Erik Nord in the West region to P3.
A total of 312 people have been shot and killed since November 2016. 48 of them are teenagers, an overview from the police shows.
The numerical material covers the period November 2016 to September 2023, according to figures from the police, according to Sweden’s Radio P3. The ages of the victims have not been released.
Many of those killed are believed to be connected to gang settlements. Extensive gang crime has long characterized Sweden, and in recent weeks it has escalated further.
Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson announced last week that the defense will be drawn into the fight against gang crime.
– We have never had the wave of violence we are seeing in Sweden, nor is there any other country that has a situation like this. The police cannot do everything themselves, Kristersson said.
