Norwegian Government to Cover Claims for Alpha Insurance Bankruptcy

– Those who were involved in the accident in 2018 when the company went bankrupt will receive money. Now they will no longer be affected by this bankruptcy. The state takes over the cost and cleans up, he says.

Norway has a guarantee scheme which is supposed to be a safety net if a Norwegian insurance company goes bankrupt. However, that scheme does not cover bankruptcy in foreign companies, writes the state channel.

155 claims have been registered in the Danish bankruptcy estate from Norwegian workers who were insured. 90 of these have been processed and are ready to be paid, while 65 of the cases will be processed. The total sum of the claims is NOK 82.3 million, writes Free Trade Union Movement.

– It is regrettable that nothing has happened many years ago. It takes a long time to get legislative changes in place. But now we are doing this before the legislative work is in place, simply because they don’t have to wait any longer, says Vedum to the newspaper.
