Freiburg (dpa) – Coach Enrico Maaßen was disappointed after FC Augsburg’s 0-2 (0-1) defeat at SC Freiburg. She was “very, very angry” and “bitter,” said the 39-year-old after the game on Sunday. Two “individual tactical mistakes” would have decided the game, said Maaßen, looking at the goals conceded by Vincenzo Grifo with a penalty kick (5th minute) and Philipp Lienhart with a header after a corner (56th). “This happens to us too often,” warned the coach, whose team is still pointless away from home in this Bundesliga season.
After all, the morale of the team was “excellent,” said Maaßen. She has “character, heart and passion,” said Augsburg striker Ermedin Demirovic.
In the next two league games, FCA, which has slipped back into the bottom third of the table, will face newly promoted teams SV Darmstadt 98 and 1. FC Heidenheim. Demirovic announced that they want to show that the club is now playing in the Bundesliga for its 13th year. He also found the defeat in the game in Freiburg with very little chance to be “extremely bitter”.
