I urge all communities to carry out mosquito breeding eradication (PSN) in their respective environments with 3M

Pontianak (ANTARA) – Acting Mayor of Singkawang Sumastro explained that in the period September 2023 to early October 2023, 68 cases of dengue hemorrhagic fever (DBD) were recorded in the area, and two residents who contracted the disease died.

“I urge the entire community to carry out mosquito nest eradication (PSN) in their respective environments with 3M, to anticipate the spread of dengue fever cases in Singkawang City,” he said in Singkawang, Monday.

It is feared that the recent high intensity of rainfall in Singkawang City has the potential to become a breeding ground for Aedes aegypti and the spread of dengue fever (DHF) cases in Singkawang City.

“Data from the West Kalimantan Provincial Health Service shows that as of September 27 2023, there were 3,047 cases of dengue fever and 34 people died, while in Singkawang, there were 68 cases of dengue fever and 2 sufferers died,” he said.

Sumastro said, by draining or cleaning water reservoirs, tightly closing water reservoirs such as drums, water barrels and jars.

“Cleaning and reusing used items around the house that can collect rainwater,” he said.

Apart from that, continued Sumastro, prevention can be done by giving abate powder to water reservoirs. “People can get abate powder for free at community health centers in Singkawang City,” he said.

He also appealed to family members, especially children, who have a fever to immediately go to the health center, clinic or other health facility for medical treatment.

“To people whose family members suffer from dengue fever, please cooperate with community health center officers to carry out epidemiological investigations around the sufferer’s house to determine appropriate preventive measures such as fogging or other measures,” said Sumastro.

He asked the ranks of the health service, community health centers, sub-district heads, village heads, RT heads and RW heads to encourage community participation in efforts to prevent dengue fever through continuous PSN activities.

“Let’s protect our families from dengue fever by always keeping the environment around us clean,” he said.
