Leverkusen –
Bayer Leverkusen speak up about rumors Xabi Alonso will be a coach Real Madrid Next season. Leverkusen also denied this.
Carlo Ancelotti will almost certainly leave Madrid after the 2023/2024 season, considering that the man from Italy will become coach of the Brazilian national team. Therefore, Madrid has been scrambling to find a replacement from an early age.
The reason is that there are not many good and capable coaches to handle a team as big as Madrid. Therefore, Madrid may be selective in choosing.
One of the candidates that has been strongly rumored is Xabi Alonso, who currently manages Bayer Leverkusen. Even though he hasn’t won a trophy, Alonso’s achievements for almost a year have attracted Madrid.
Alonso managed to advance Leverkusen, who were previously in the relegation zone, to finish in the Europa League zone last season. Not only that, Leverkusen was also brought to the semifinals of the competition.
This season, Leverkusen has had an extraordinary start by topping the Bundesliga standings thanks to 16 points, two points ahead of Bayern Munich in third place.
Leverkusen was transformed into the top team with 20 goals and only conceded six goals. It is natural that there are concerns from the Leverkusen camp regarding Alonso’s future.
Therefore, Leverkusen emphasized that Alonso would not be released, considering that the man from Basque had just signed a new contract until 2026.
“We have received his commitment several weeks ago, when he signed a new contract. Xabi doesn’t need to say anything. He has extended his contract. He is fully focused here,” said Leverkusen Sports Director Simon Rofles as quoted Mirror.
