Apple on Saturday (30/9) said it had identified several issues that could cause the new iPhone to run hotter than expected, including a bug in the iOS 17 software that will be fixed in the future.
After complaints that new phones were getting unusually warm, Apple said devices may feel warmer in the first few days “after setting up or restoring the device due to increased background activity.”
“Another issue involves several recent updates to third-party apps that caused them to overload the system,” Apple said, adding that it was working with app developers on a fix that was in the process of being rolled out.

Third-party applications that cause this problem include the game Asphalt 9; Meta’s Instagram; and Uber, according to the companies. Instagram fixed its app issues on September 27.
The upcoming iOS 17 bug fix will not reduce performance to address iPhone temperatures.
The company, which is headquartered in Cupertino, California, said that the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max do not experience overheating due to their design, instead the new titanium shell actually provides better heat dissipation than previous stainless steel models.
Apple also said the issue does not constitute a safety or injury risk, and will not impact the phone’s performance in the long term. [ah/ft]
