Explosion near Kizilay Square in Ankara: Minister of Interior reveals details

CNN Turk reported that an explosion was heard near Kizilay Square in Ankara at around nine-thirty in the morning, noting that large numbers of police forces and ambulance personnel headed to the area.

She explained that there were “gunshots after hearing the explosion.”

Video clips spread on the “X” platform (formerly Twitter) showed police cars near the headquarters of the Ministry of Interior, while the streets leading to the area were closed.

The Minister of Interior reveals the details

The Turkish Minister of the Interior, Ali Yerli Kaya, revealed in a tweet on his official account in “X”: “At around 09:30 in the morning, two terrorists who came on board a light vehicle carried out a bomb attack in front of the entrance gate of the General Directorate of Security of the Ministry of Interior.”

He added: “One of the terrorists blew himself up and the other terrorist was neutralized.”

He pointed out that two police officers were slightly injured during the exchange of fire.

Parliament will resume its work today, Sunday, after the summer recess.
