Former Ajax professional Antony was kicked out of the Brazilian national team squad at the beginning of September following allegations from his ex-partner Gabriela Cavallin. She accused him of domestic violence when he was home for international games. His club Manchester United and Antony then mutually agreed that he would stay away from professional training until further notice. The exemption from training took place on September 10th.
After consultation with the police in Manchester, United have now allowed the Brazilian to return to team training. He is now available to coach Erik ten Hag for games again, although the police investigation is still ongoing. Antony was recently in Brazil and has now returned to England.
The winger, who moved from Amsterdam to Manchester for €95m in 2022, admits the relationship with Cavallin was turbulent but claims he never became violent. Some of the allegations are extreme.
When it comes to top sporting form, the struggling United could probably use the Brazilian. However, whether he will quickly get back to his old form after the long break is just as questionable as the idea that the events could have no influence on his game. Before the incident, Antony was a regular in ten Hag’s team.
