Karolína Baranová and Martin Pechlát won the Thália Award for the best performance in a drama this year. Baranová received it for her portrayal of Marie Antoinette in David Adjmi’s production of the same name, presented by the FX Šaldy Theater in Liberec.

Pechlát was awarded for the role named Otto von F. from the production of Moskoviad, played by Divadlo X10 Praha.

Viktor Kuzník from the National Theater Brno took home the prize for actors under 33 years of age.

According to the jury, one of FX Theater Šalda Baranová’s most cast actresses performs her role by giving the audience a multifaceted image of her, but also her vision of the queen’s tragic to tragicomic fate, story and character. It stands out for its deep penetration into the character of the character it presents as a contemporary naive young girl, spoiled, wasteful, blind to a world other than the one that surrounds her.

The actors of Dušan David Pařízek’s production of Moskoviad co-create a magical image of the collapsing Soviet Union. Pechlát, as one of the author’s alter egos, portrays both the absurd comedian and the distress of the era ending with all his actions. According to jury president Jana Paterová, Moskoviad is a very strong commentary on the war in Ukraine.

The award in the opera category went to Jaroslav Březina for the role of Herod in the production of Salome, which was staged by the National Theater Brno under the direction of David Radok.

Becka McFaddenová received the Thalia in the alternative theater category for her performance in the Black Dress production on the stage of Venus in Švehlovka in Prague. Screenwriter Marie Loucká, who was responsible for the recordings of important theater productions, received the award for the dissemination of theatrical art on television.

Theater actor Jiří Suchý received the Thália Award for lifetime achievement in the category of musicals and operettas. The co-founder of the Na zábradlí and Semaforu Theater will celebrate his 92nd birthday on October 1. In his acceptance speech, the co-author of many comedies, cabarets and musicals made the audience laugh with his playful modesty.

“I’m getting an award for something I enjoyed, I couldn’t imagine my life without it, and now I’m getting an award for it?” he stated with mock astonishment. “So I introduced myself as a modest man and now I will tell the truth. I was terribly looking forward to the award and I am very happy for it. I thank the actors’ association and everyone who wished me the award,” he added.
