MOSCOW, KOMPAS.com – Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev on Saturday (30/9/2023) said his country would annex more Ukrainian territory.
Medvedev’s remarks came on the first anniversary of Russia claiming four Ukrainian regions as its own.
Although Russia held elections in four of those regions this month, it does not fully control any of them.

Russia is also battling a Ukrainian counteroffensive that wants to retake those territories.
“Special military operations will continue until the Nazi regime in Kyiv is completely destroyed,” said Medvedev, who now serves as deputy chairman of Russia’s Security Council.
“Victory will be ours. And there will be more new regions in Russia,” he continued, quoted by the AFP news agency.
Russia uses the term “new territories” to refer to Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia and Kherson in Ukraine which it claims to have annexed in September 2022.

Medvedev, once considered a liberal reformer, has now become one of Moscow’s most vocal advocates for the Ukraine offensive.
He also often criticizes the West in his posts on social media.
