At least three miners have died and a dozen are trapped after a gold mine in Zimbabwe collapsed on Friday.
State television in the country reported on Saturday that three are confirmed dead and 18 feared buried in a mine shaft in Chegutu, about 12 miles west of the capital Harare.
– Three people have been found dead under masses of rock in a rescue operation under the auspices of the authorities with the help of miners, it was announced on the TV channel.
The channel ZBC reported on Friday that 34 miners were trapped by the rock masses, but that 13 of them succeeded in getting out to freedom.
The incident happened on Friday morning. Zimbabwe has many large mining facilities, but illegal and dangerous operations are widespread. In 2019, 24 workers died in a flood in a mine in the middle of the country.
